A surface of revolution (abbreviated SfR) is a polyhedron formed by lathing any polygon. The polygon used in forming the SfR is called the base of the SfR.

In CSG notation, if x represents the base, then:

  • if x is solid,
    • xL represents the corresponding solid SfR
  • if x is hollow,
    • xL represents the corresponding hollow SfR
  • if x is marked,
    • xL represents the corresponding (unknown) SfR
