What would happen in 1D?

Ideas about how a world with more than three spatial dimensions would work - what laws of physics would be needed, how things would be built, how people would do things and so on.

What would happen in 1D?

Because electrons have to rotate around a nucleas, wouldn't 1D atoms immeditly "pop" and turn into 2D ones?

The atoms dont nescessarily need to have elctrons in the 1D..
not that i would know what they are made of ;)

Mabye 1D can't have life because of the few possibilites of molecules???

you dont even know if the 1D even exists. -_-

One may always speculate for fun. It can even be good practice for creative logical thinking.

Some may need to put more emphasis on the creative aspect; others on the logical aspect.

Surely the stock answer to any question in 1D is "."

Very punny.

I doubt life in 1D is possible, because life requires complexity on some level, some sort of system. And 1D precludes anything other than a one-dimensional line. How could life arise from that?

On the other hand, just because I can't imagine it doesn't mean it can't exist. I can't imagine 4D either, really, but it's at least plausible on some level.

In 1d as the way to determine the intensity of gravity would be to take the distance to the power zero the force of gravity would be the same no matter how far you were from an object. As objects always fall toward the place were gravity is the most intense this would mean that if gravity were the same intensity throughout a one dimensional universe objects would not be effected by it so gravity would be essentially none existent. Magnetism could not exist either in a 1d universe as the positive force of a proton would cancel out the negative force of an electron as magnetism would also not decrease with distance.

It may be possible for a 1d universe to exist but it would be featureless and have no forces, galaxies, atoms or life.
