Jake Barnett is a synesthestic, which is presumably why the sticks have different colors, and which might also imply that the technique is much more involved than presented in the talk. Unfortunately, there is no additional information about it and I'm also not sure whether it is a precise representation of how he thinks or whether it's only meant to be illustrative for his talk. Anyway, it seems that it’s based on the unary system, but organized in an binary tree/H tree structure. This is presumably how the notation works:
- Code: Select all
1: ---------------
2: ---|-------|---
| ---|---
3: ---|-------|---
| ---|---
---|--- ---|---
4: ---|-------|---
---|--- ---|---
---|--- ---|---
5: ---|-------|---
---|--- -|-|-|-
---|--- -|-|-|-
6: ---|-------|---
---|--- -|-|-|-
---|--- -|-|-|-
7: ---|-------|---
-|-|-|- -|-|-|-
-|-|-|- -|-|-|-
8: ---|-------|---
-|-|-|- -|-|-|-
...
But how can rotations be used to do addition, subtraction, multiplication and division?
