Quantum Foam

Postby mightymrbob » Wed Jun 23, 2004 7:58 am

On another post, I read that someone was trying to spray someone with "quantum space-time foam". Technically, shouldn't his head have melted, then his body, then the ground around him, etc...
Do you not only need a tiny amount of the stuff to, for example, (and lets say we are all megalomaniac psychopathic lunatics) to boil all the Earths oceans? :?

I imagine that was a joke. I thought quantum foam was just the foam that exists everywhere at extremely small scales. Spacetime just breaks down or something. It's not actually a foam or any kind of substance. There is a lot of energy stored in it, but it's not actually energy that you can extract or anything. I think it gets cancelled out or something.

I know. It's probably a good thing as well. Imagine what kind of QFPICBMs could be built. (Quantum Foam Powered Intercontinental Ballistic Missile).

All I know is that it would have made a very big nuclear bomb. Then again, that's not a good thing if we could obtain it and make one, would it?

I never said I wanted to make one, did I? I just said

See?

It's probably a good thing as well

i.e. "if someone managed to make a bomb out of the stuff, it wouldn't be very good" :)

In any case, I don't think any megalomaniac, would feel like spending money on boiling the Earth's oceans for no practical reason unless he/she was mentally ill, but the bomb would be freaky, and would pretty much set every country equal that had it, if they possessed even one,,, so no.

In any case, the results would be quite spectacular...

I can think of plently of megalomaniacs who would spend money on a QFPICBM.

What if they didn't want to boil all the earth's oceans? What if they just decided to blow up the earth? (OK, so now we add "suicidal" to the megalomaniacs list of personality traits). A nuke wouldn't just boil water!

That pretty much falls into being mentally ill, or perhaps deeply depressed.

If a small amount of quantum foam can destroy the earth, then a smaller amount could destroy a country. They could make "tactical" quantum bombs.

The people who would spend money on a QFPICBM would be the same people who spend money on nuclear weapons. Maybe we should add "president" to the list of personality traits. (No offence to any Bush supporters)

Lol! Definitely. :D

And I think the name "quantum bomb" sounds a lot better than "QFPICBM". The latter is a bit of a mouthful. :!:

It would be some spectacle to witness a country being blown into atom-sized "bits"!

*Note* That does not necessarily mean that I would want to!

Still, I'm sure "someone" whose initials are those of Great Britain  could find a "spare" island to test one on. If you know what I mean..
