Ideas about how a world with more than three spatial dimensions would work - what laws of physics would be needed, how things would be built, how people would do things and so on.

Anyone have any ideas on what olympic events Emily could compete in?

Theres no reason to assume any different then our olympics. Various races and strengths. Gymnastics may be more interesting, but so dependent upon her physical form that we can't really speculate.

Many of our events are linear or less. We can move around in two dimensions, but for the most part, events like running, swimming, diving, pole-vault, javelin, high-jump, equestrian, rowing, shooting, etc. do not take much advantage of spatial directions beyond forward (and sometimes up).

Other sports, like lacross, badminton, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, field hockey, etc. take advantage of a fair amount of planar area. Turning that area into realmar volume would make for lots more ground to cover unless one of the dimensions of the court were very small.

Yes, sports like badminton, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, field hockey and soccer/football would be much more difficult for the defense, because they would have to cover volume instead of area. This would probably have to be compensated by making the playing area smaller.

What about the shapes of the tools used in the olympics?
The spherinder would be the best shape for the arrows/javelin, because it can be easily sharpened down to a point.
A spherinder would be best for the pole vault as well, because it meets the ground as a sphere. A cubinder or duocylinder would meet the ground as a cylinder, which might roll (or would it?:?)

What about discus? The 4D analogue would be "ballus". The ball would have a parabolic up-down velocity, but it would curve to the left or right, as well as ana or kata.

As already pointed out, we have events that are 2 dimensional. Tetronians might as well.

Actually that's a disadvantage.

The higher the dimension you go, the more competitive you would be with relation to lower dimensions.
