crazy earth spinning out of crontrol!!!

Postby batmanmg » Fri Jul 30, 2010 12:03 am

ok, so this one is simple to consider, but a bit harder to figure out for me.

lets say some act of nature, or "god," throws the earths rotational axis tumbling out of control.
You remember those spinning things at carnivals that rotates you on several diferent axis, well pretty much the same thing, but with the whole planet...

pretty much the question is, what would happen?
would the earth stabilize after a hundred or a million years, if ever?
would it be able to keep its orbit around the sun and not freak the moon out of its orbit?

and more to the fun theoretical part, what would happen on earth?
Would seasons go haywire, or would its blend together over the whole surface and create a utopia?
or a frozen hell?
and would that mess with the inner cores, and make tectonic shifting go crazy?
would we feel it since its no longer static motion? (or could it even stay in multiple direction without going back to one for any period of time at all?)
too many people have self replicating sigs. Don't copy this.

The moon would use it's gravity to keep the earth stable. But only after a few tens of billions of years.

The moon would take energy from the earth, and move further away. That means no more solar eclipses and longer months. It won't affect the earth going round the sun

There would be a larger difference between night and day, with the Earth having less time for the temperature to even out. Cold places would get colder, and hot places would get hotter. The Earth's average temperature would increase as well, because of the changed wind currents.

This depends on the change in rotation, but we would probably see a change in plate tectonics.

No, we would not feel the rotation. We would feel the initial jolt from the speed up, but the only things we would notice are the things I listed above.
