Hypercube: Source

Postby Nick » Mon Aug 21, 2006 1:14 am

The Source engine is an engine designed by Valve and debuted on the video game Half Life 2, sporting the most advanced physics engine in any video game ever. When you buy a copy of HL2, you get a copy of the Source SDK (Software Developer's Kit) for free. Because of this, hundreds of programmers and developers have created literally hundreds of "mods".

I recently came across this multiplayer deathmatch mod, which...

"...takes place inside of the same cube that was seen in the moive "Cube 2: Hyperucbe". It has traps from all three cube movies, and has been designed to simulate infinite cubes in a finite number of cubes. The object of the game is to simply, get out of the cube alive, and once your out, the game is stll not over!"

This is an exact quote, they mispelled "moive", not me.

I am downloading this now to see what it's like, and I encourage other HL2 owners to do the same. Screenshots will follow ;)

And so is the game.

Here is what you get when you first start out:

Looks good, looks promising. Those black lines that surround the squares act as ladders. The doors atomatically open. So far, so good.

Then I get this:

And I die instantly. That's not fair at ALL. Especially when you consider this is supposed to be a team deathmatch game.

Eventually, I wander through one hole, and am teleported here:

There is no way out. What kind of multiplayer game is this? They honestly expect me to wait there for someone else to come along and kill me so I respawn back in the cube?

So, figuring that this is pointless, I decided to noclip (noclip lets me fly through walls and stuff like a ghost; I'm doing this in single player, I wouldn't be able to cheat like that in multiplayer) out of the map to see how big it is:

The walls that are facing me are invisible.
Frankly, this game isn't worth the money. And since it's free, that's saying something.

EDIT: Don't know how to fix the pics, can anyone else do it?
