shwarzchild radius

Whats a Shwarzchild radius, I read in this book that it was the distance where you would be sucked into a black hole no matter what. Is that true? and if not what is it?

Look, if you have a big mass point in space. And then throwing a ball a bit in direction of this mass, then 2 things can happen:
1. the ball get catched into an orbit
2. the trajectory of the ball is a bit influenced by the mass but finally flies away from the mass.

Which case happens depends on the distance of the starting point of the ball and the initial velocity of the ball. So for each distance from the big mass there is the so called escape velocity. If you throw the ball below the escape velocity it becomes catched in an orbit and above flies away.

The Schwarzschildradius is now the distance at which the escape velocity is the light speed. Because no body can move faster than light everything becomes catched in an orbit (or rushes into the mass) below that radius. Thought thats quite a simplistic view because it doesnt use general relativity.
