Speciation Events

Ideas about how a world with more than three spatial dimensions would work - what laws of physics would be needed, how things would be built, how people would do things and so on.

Speciation Events

Because the number of dimensions there are determines how easy it is for a natural boundary to form the number of dimensions there are determines how speciation events from Geographic Isolation occur. In 2d the formation of a lake would be enough to split a population in two as individuals could not walk around the lake so any species unable to fly or swim would be split into two populations by the lake. If there was a land mass marine creatures would have to cross the land mass to get from one side to the other so the formation of a land mass would be enough to cause members of a species to be geographically isolated from each other. In 2d speciation events from Geographical Isolation would probably be more common. In 3d a lake will not cause a species to split in two even if the lake is too big to cross as individuals can just go around it but a river can cause a speciation event provided it's large enough. In 4d even a river is not enough to isolate members of a species even if it's too big to cross as individuals could just go around it and so populations on either side of a river would not be isolated from each other even if they couldn't swim or fly. In 4d speciation events from Geographical Isolation would likely be rarer considering that it would be harder for a population to become Geographically Isolated.

Yep, sounds about right. In 3D, the best known example is Madagascar. This island has well over 100 different types of lemur. It is believed that rising sea levels caused the landmass to become divided by rivers . Thus isolating groups, that interbred for several generations.

In four dimensions, it is possible to have one continent, and one sea and no where more than say, 120 miles from the sea, and pretty much travel in a straight line on land or on water from any point to any other point.

the dream we dream together is reality.

A water body that extends over large distances along two dimensions would be sufficient to divide the realmic ground in flunespace. We can consider the following analogy:

In 2D, either we have to jump across a lake, if it is small, use a boat if it is big, or construct a bridge, which would permanently cut off the lake from the land. A river would work like an ocean.

In 3D, we can walk around lakes, build bridges across rivers and have oceans separate the landforms into continents.

In 4D, we could walk around lakes and rivers, build bridges across hedrical water bodies and have large realmic bodies of water divide the land into continents.
People may consider as God the beings of finite higher dimensions,
though in truth, God has infinite dimensions
